Product Description:

Grape Seed Oil is a cold pressed carrier oil extracted from the seeds of grapes (Vitis vinifera), making it a natural by-product of the winemaking process. The oil is light yellow in colour with a nearly neutral, faintly nutty scent and one of the lightest textures among all carrier oils. It absorbs into the skin almost instantly, leaving a smooth, satin-like finish without any greasy residue. At Maduras Herbals, we supply Grape Seed Oil as a raw material for cosmetic manufacturers, DIY formulators, massage therapists, and skin care product developers looking for an ultra light, fast absorbing carrier oil.

About Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil comes from the seeds of Vitis vinifera fruits and is essentially a by-product of the wine-making process. After grapes are pressed for wine, the leftover seeds are collected and the oil is extracted, making it one of the more interesting examples of an ingredient that emerged from an entirely different industry. The Mediterranean region, particularly France, Spain, and Italy, is where wine grape cultivation is most established, and most commercial grapeseed oil traces back to this part of the world.

Extraction method matters with this oil. Some manufacturers use solvents and heat to extract it, which produces a thinner, lighter-coloured oil with less scent but also fewer therapeutic properties, since heat and chemical processing deplete some of its active compounds. Cold-pressed or expeller-pressed versions retain more of what makes grapeseed oil genuinely useful in skincare. The oil is rich in antioxidants within its unsaponifiable fraction, including vitamin E, resveratrol, and phenolic compounds such as proanthocyanidins. These give it notable antioxidant activity alongside its emollient function. In-vivo research has also suggested it carries significant skin repair action. It is a very moisturising oil and a popular choice as a massage carrier oil, appreciated for its light texture and fast absorption that does not leave a heavy residue on the skin.

Working with Grapeseed Oil in Your Formulations

Grapeseed oil works well in anhydrous products, balms, masks, butters, scrubs, and emulsions. Its light texture and near-neutral scent make it a particularly popular choice as a massage carrier oil, either on its own or as part of a blend. It is heat sensitive and should only be added to formulations once the temperature is below 40°C to preserve its active compounds and avoid accelerating oxidation.

Quality & Formulation Notes

Oxidation stability is the main concern with grapeseed oil. Its very low heat stability and high unsaturated fatty acid content mean it can degrade quickly if not stored correctly or if exposed to heat during formulation. Antioxidants within the formula and cool, dark, sealed storage are both worth including as standard practice. When sourcing, cold-pressed or expeller-pressed versions are preferable to solvent-extracted ones, as the latter can be significantly lower in active antioxidant compounds despite appearing similar on a basic specification sheet.
