About Wheat Germ Oil
Wheat germ oil is cold-pressed from the germ of the wheat kernel, Triticum aestivum, which is separated during the milling of wheat flour. The germ makes up only about 2 to 3% of the wheat kernel by weight but contains a disproportionately high concentration of nutrients, making wheat germ oil one of the most nutritionally dense carrier oils available. Wheat is extensively grown across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in India, giving this oil a genuine and strong Indian agricultural connection.
Wheat germ oil is one of the richest known natural sources of vitamin E, with tocopherol content typically ranging from 180 to 330 mg per 100g of oil, significantly higher than most other carrier oils. This exceptional vitamin E content gives it outstanding antioxidant properties and makes it a popular addition to formulations where shelf life protection and skin antioxidant activity are priorities. Its fatty acid profile is dominated by linoleic acid at around 55 to 60%, followed by oleic acid at around 15 to 20% and palmitic acid at around 15 to 18%, with smaller amounts of stearic and alpha-linolenic acid. This linoleic-rich composition supports skin barrier repair and anti-inflammatory activity. It also contains squalene, phytosterols, and lecithin, all of which contribute to its conditioning and barrier-supporting properties.
